Should I ask to have my link removed from a friends site?

I don't know what to do?

OK, here is my predicament. Before Florida, for my main two word phrase, my index page was number 6. It was 1-6 for two - three years. After Florida it completely disappeared. Since last week it is in the 200s. Not much help.

It is an educational site about a certain specialty in Medicine. There is a contributor to my site, a physician who writes articles. At the bottom of his articles, I do link back to his site. Now here is the problem. When his website was developed the company who created his site linked him to around 50 sites under his resource section; sites that had a similar theme to his site but not direct competitors. I have noticed that all of the sites that this webmaster company developed have the same sites that are linked back to each other. Since I post this doctors articles on my site, my site is also listed under his resource section. Initially, this was good since we were both ranked high for this two word phrase.

Before Florida, this doctors site was ranked high for this particular two word phrase. Since Florida his site has completely disappeared and in fact has not come back for this phrase at all. Both of our sites still are ranked very high for other keywords that link to internal pages, but not the index page.

Do you think that I am being penalized because Google sees his site as a link farm? Should I ask him to remove my site from his resource section? Thank you for your help!

Just to be cautious , you can remove his site link from your pages, As Far as I think the incoming links should not fetch you a penalty untill you reciprocate.

Hi AjiNIMC,
Thanks for answering me! Right now the links are at the end of the articles and they allow the reader to click on them and go right to the website in question. If I just wrote them in so that the reader had to copy and paste the link to get back to their site would that be the same thing as removing them, or should I remove all mention of them completely? Thanks again.

Yeah i thought of this when I replied but you need to compromise sometime, try negotiating with the other site and try to avoid such links.

But truly speaking now a days i donot know what is right and what is wrong, so wish you best of luck.
