Accurate browser stats? Yahoo Groups confirmation page?

First of all, I'm wanting to know how Google determine their browser stats (i.e in the Zeitgeist reports) - does MSIE6 include the likes of Opera and Safari who (try to) fake their identity?
Also noticed that the confirmation page for subscribing to the Google friends newsletter lands you at a Yahoo Groups page with Yahoo Groups URL - what's up with this?
