How to Get Exact PageRank?

More accurate than Toolbar PR

Wow...I'm really starting to get addicted to this board...great info!

Anyway, I wanted to know if there is anyway to get the exact PR of a site. I know that I have a PR5, but I'm sure there is really 5.3, 5.4, etc. So, is there any way to see how close two PR5 sites are together in terms of PR?

I'm really curious as to how many backwards links it takes to get to PR6!

I'm really curious as to how many backwards links it takes to get to PR6!

It's a lot more complex than that I'm afraid. The PR of the page linking to you and how many other links are on that page are just 2 *possible* factors. The *quantity* is only another one of many factors and *possibly* of less value than the 2 mentioned above.

I advise to forget all about PR and link to (ask for a link back)lot's of sites that will be of use to your site visitors regardless.

PR depends on
- PR of the pages linking to you
- number of links on the pages linking to you
- the value of the damping factor

That's all (apart from handmade penalties etc. and possible other changes of the original PR algorithm such as a change of the PR sources). Of course, the relation between real PR and toolbar PR also depends on the log. base as well as an additional offset parameter.

The only way to get addtional information about PR directly from Google is their directory.

However, you can get additional information by measing the PR propagation (and the damping factor). Doing this, you won't get the exact PR but a more accurate value.

That's all

That's all we *think* it is. It is however possible for there to be more in the mix. Google's PR is a black box.

does it really matter whether a site has a PR of 6.1415927 or 6.12312? PR is just one ingredient in a large recipe.

Apart from the fact that there are well-known papers (e.g. L. Page and S. Brin) which describe PR calculation in detail, you can also examine the current PR algorithm used by Google. You'll find that (currently) there are no other factors.

Black box experimentation is fun. incywincy, if you want to measure an aspect of Google (eg. effect of title, bold. h1, etc.) then the best approach is to isolate all other variables, including PageRank.

Also, if you want to know whether there's some kind of PageRank penalty or other anomaly then it helps to know what the flow would be in the absense of the anomaly.

Just in my opinion...

About the only way to get a decent "range" tighter than the toolbar's (without a ton of investigation of link to and from that page) that I've seen is the Google Directory version of DMOZ.

For example, for one of my sites, I noticed that it made it to the top of the "sorted by pagerank" list in it's category even when the 5 sites below it all had the same PR 6 showing on the toolbar.

Based on that and that some of the pages it was the highest PR link to also were PR 6 on the toolbar, it appeared that it was a "high" PR 6.

This theory was confirmed when it hit Toolbar PR 7 a month or so later.

Of course, since I stopped bothering to wait for DMOZ submissions/listings for all my new sites, that method does have it's draw-backs. :)

ticketleap, there is a thread around here, to know a better measure of PR, if you are in dmoz, thereby, in google directory.

But, these days, PR are pretty much worthless :)
