Hi all,

Its my second post here. I am not an SEO and don't claim to be an expert by any sense. I was, however, able to get my site to number 6 on my main search word. (my domain is my username with a dot com on the end :))

Anyway, I got basically wiped out by the Florida update. This isn't devistating for us because we get most of our hits through other marcketing mechanisms, but it does hurt somewhat.

Unfortunatley, we structured our page in a way that isn't completely search engine friendly. We use a fusebox framework for our site, so most pages have the same keywords, descriptions, title, etc.

I haven't done anything that I would think google should be flagging as over optimization. The only thing we did do is get linked all over the web and used many of the same anchors for these links.

We are a PR5, yet we are gone off of google for our target search. Most of the other competitors in our target search are also gone. The end result is that the SERPS are not really usefull to the searcher as it now displays a lot of directories...etc, not many places that offer the service they are actually looking for.

I'm just trying to figure out if there are any real answer or suggestions out there. I know that many of you weren't affected by this update, but it doesn't mean you won't in the future, so simply saying "get good content, we weren't affected, etc..." won't change anything. I'm really just looking for any good advice...has anyone found a way to get back after the Florida update?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not up all night stressing over this, but I am up all night trying to learn about this, partially, because I find it very interesting.

Thanks for your time! (sorry for the long post)
-Chris

Do you link back to most of the sites somewhere on your site? It might not be pertinent but I'm curious.

Good luck... you might get some answers from your post rather than questions.

I'm not sure by any means that anyone on this forum is an "expert". I am certainly not. I am a "brand new" user of this Forum. This is one of the few forums I have joined, one of the better I have been monitoring. The best results I have had from search engines is by keeping the site simple. Simply do your pages ONE by ONE, keep your meta-tags and key phrases accurate with your page content, and don't try to over-do keywords and phrases (i.e. widgets that, widgets this, gift widgets, widgets you can't live without), etc. Like I say, it seems to work for me. 'Florida' didn't seem to affect my sites at all. Perhaps even helped a bit.

AjiNIMC,

I have already read that post. It sounds good in theory, but if you look at the number of times the words maybe, perhaps, hopefully, etc..are used, it is clear that there is no concise answer in the post.

There was a site that was doing comparisons of the pre-florida and post-florida SERPs, and my market was one of the hardest hit. It wasn't just me that went down, but most of the competition as well....not just down actually, gone.

So, I am here looking for advice to see if anyone has sucessfully tried deoptimization, or any other tactic to at least get back on the SERPs.

There is no way I can send a message to my link partners asking them to change their link text on their sites. Additionally, I haven't done much in the way of backwards linking, but we do have some.

Anyway, are there any clear answers that someone can say, "I tried this...it works", or "Yes I know what is causing this filtering".

The main reason I don't think we were hit with the OOP is that we aren't even optimized that well. We just have some keywords and description and that is it. No doorway pages or anything. The only negative thing I can say is that we are linked off some sketchy sites....many of these that just used ODP data.

If anyone wants to actually take a look at my site, it is my username with dot com at the end...

Help please :)

Thanks,
Chris

Your site is riddled with duplicate content, and not just the very similar pages. There are lots that are exact duplicates.

Do you think you can elaborate a bit more? There are no pages that are the exact same, however, since most of the content is user-provided, these pages are based on a layout template which are all fuseboxed.

What do you suggest specifically in the context of our site's function?

Thanks,
Chris

Start at your site map. Go up one level. Shows Juice, etc. Go up one more level. Exact same content.
