Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
This is my first post and apologize for the seemly stupid question. BUT I must ask it. I am new to SEO and am experiencing the common problems of keyword selecting and tracking. Since the web site that I am currently responsible for has been around for some time and has been indexed by Google. Is there a way I could "reverse lookup" my site? I mean, could I feed Google my site URL and have it spit back keywords or phrases that could be used to find the URL in the top 20 or 30 results?
Does this make sense?
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to Webmaster World Duckman.
What your wanting to do is not possible through google.
Posting teh URL may be a TOS violation so if its removed sticky me and I can give you the URL.
You will need to type in the keywords you want to be found for and your URL and it will give your sites ranking for that keyword.
You can also check your server logs and see what search terms people are finding you with.
Overture also has a "term suggestion tool" that may help you out. If you do a search on google you should get the URL.
There are pay type services such as Wordtracker.com, however I have found that between the Oceture tool and using Google I can come up with the same information that Wordtracker provides.
Hope that helps.

[edit reason] If you know it is a violation, then why post it? [/edit]
I use the Overture suggestion tool all the time, its a must. Try searching for "Google Rank Tool" or "Google ranking tool" or even "Google Tools". You may find the results quite interesting. I found one that if you were not in the top 1000 pages then it won't give you results, but if your not in the top 1000 results listed for a keyword then its pointless as you would not be on the first 100 pages :S. Shame though, I have not found one where I am based, in the UK. I have found one that only works with Google.com.
If this is true then its time to change your technique. Sign up to a few newsletters and keep on tweaking until you get it right. Research everything there is possible and it will come together.
The best way to find some good keywords is to look in your title and try to combine in as many ways what type of keywords there are for your site. Also check them in your <H1> tags <B> tags and inbound anchor text links from other sites. Use this in conjunction with the Overture suggestion tool and you should be able to find a few good terms relevent to your site that will produce good results.
Like Shawn has stated, posting of URL's are forbidden (apart from a few instances - such as urls to other posts) so I cannot give you the direct link. Sticky me if you are interested in this tool.
Good luck
