What is the byte size count next to the URL in the Google search results represent?

Is it that specific URL's text byte count (just the text, no images), or what?

Thanks in advance. :)

Yes, it's the html itself, the page code that is, nothing else. That means CSS, JS, images etc are not counted in that size listing. What is being returned in the search by google as far as I know is only the file, that's what the result is showing you, an image is another file, which would be stored in google's image database, sort of anyway, I don't know exactly how it's organized.

This is easy to check, just search for a page on google, click on the link, when the page loads in your browser view the page properties and you'll see that the file size is the same as it was listed on google, more or less.

This number is the size of the text portion of the found web page. It is omitted for sites we have not yet indexed.

The value is maximal '101k' because the rest of the file is not read, so all the text and links after 101k are ignored.

That's why it's always good to keep your files below 101k for 2 obvious reasons. Think of Dialup users ...and think of Google.
