I am getting ready to launch 10 new web sites. The sites are all branded the same. However, they cover different (but related) subject matter. For this reason, I would like each site to have it's own domain name. For example, a web site firm...1 site for graphics, another for seo, another for flash, etc. Can I interlink these sites almost treating them as 1? All sites would be usefull to the user. I was going to host them all at the same hosting firm; however, I don't have to.
I don't want to get penalized so I am asking for your feedback. Thanks much and have a great weekend!

Thats the key factor, there is chance that you may get a penalty. I have few sites hosted on the same server, so I donot interlink those ( a little chance of getting penalty).
Donot take a risk, and you will have enough other sites to link to. Still if you want to link to each and every site, make it centerlized stuff. Let one site(your company site) be hosted on some other server and each site get the link to it.
If not today, you may get a penalty tommorow.

If you're heavily cross-linking domains then using different hosting does not provide you with any protection from penalties in my opinion.
funandgames, I think people normally mean IP addresses (or class Cs) when they talk about separating the hosting. You can get different class C ranges applied to one server, but this is quite unusual.
ok, say I have 10 travel sites for various destinations. I would like to built seperate sites using seperate domains. However, I would like the sites to all link together. For example, I may have some text, on the footer of everypage, that says, "Other Travel Destinations: Germany, England, ect." Each would link to the homepage of the appropriate site. Would Google view this as trickery and penalize me?
I was also thinking about using a directory struction but then I could only get one link from DMOZ.
What do you think?
