Will will keyword domain names survive new filters?

I have been on webmasterworld reading all that I could in an attempt to get a heads up. Sofar lots of speculation about new filtering systems integrated into Google’s algorithms. However, there seems to be some logic emerging behind the idea that what was once deemed an acceptable level of optimization, may now be considered over optimization by the new google filters and thus, dropped. I don't want to make any changes to my existing sites... at least not yet.

In all of this I know there is no substitute to providing quality useful content. First and foremost. Secondly, too make that content accessible; some level of optimization must be employed. If not, one’s site would never be visible and would therefore benefit no one. It’s obvious that the rules have changed. Only quality content under control and experimentation will crack the code for what is now considered new levels of acceptable optimization. “New levels - referring to a balanced combination of content and SEO.

However, I am thinking about getting new sites going. But since I know that many of the sites using two word key-phases in the domain names separated with hyphens such as www.widgets-gidgets.com have vanished, I am reluctant to get a domain name with a keyword phrase in it.

Very few sites with two-keyword phrases in them are listed at the top. It seems like all the sites with one-word keywords www.widgetngidgets.com (no hyphens) are listed high in google rankings. Any thoughts?
