SERPS for these terms
a) have the two word phrase highlighted all throughout the titles and snippets
b) are the same whether or not -fdsafdsa is used (or very, very close)
It seems to be a major softening of the filter. Some KWs I'm looking at still have some results missing, but not nearly as many.
The rollback seems to be gradual. city1 KW1 may not be affected, but city2 KW1 is.
Andrew Goodman, principal at search advertising consulting firm Page Zero Media, said the volume of the complaints has risen in the past week and that most appear to come from people who use or teach various techniques, such as repeating certain words on their Web pages, to boost rankings.
From link posted in msg#17.
As marketing person, I'd want to know a lot more about "our testing". Focus group? Survey? How many and who in the sample. (Random folks from CA, US, Canada. Or the guys who office next to Rosing...and his secretary.) When conducted?
Also, what exactly does "quality improvement mean"?.
Please don't think this is accusing Google of anything. I assume the "testing" is valid. I'll believe it when I see verification.
BTW, these are valid, legitimate, and basic marketing questions. Google should be proud to share the methodology and results (without divulging confidential info).

Terms "web site" interpreted as one word - Top 3 matches "cheap web widgeting" in title (which is right for this industry, in fact used more often). Except for GV, #4 is "cheap web site widgeting" and #5 only matches "widgeting" in title.
All datacenter results are relevant (the whole Top 10 can lead you to a purchase) 6 may be considered "directories", 2 of these are "review" sites, the four remaining are sellers of this product. All sites are SEO'ed, using everything in the book (in this industry, that's quite normal).
Added: if this is significant, i'd personally call it Florida round 2 and not Galen, IMHO it's too early for an entirely new one.

Here's how to check for a real update. Find some rather obscure search term that are something clearly spammers won't go after. Say "Peloponnesian war". I just checked that SERP on one of those Google Dance machine sites. On all 10 datacenters, the #100 site is the same on all. And there is only slight movement between 1-100. No way this would happen in a real dance. Because at dances many new algo tweaks come into play, some sites will rise, some will go down.
>> seems to be a major softening of the filter (msg #1)
I've seen a few changes in matching as well the past two days, but not "major" - i've had the "shuffling things around a bit" view to it sofar. I think things are still being worked on post-Florida.
Added&edited: Just tried one such tool, it showed only 10 DC's and almost made my browser crash due to heavy ads: "link:yahoo" shows 762,000 on all, except for "-lm" (759,000) - i'm still not convinced about an update.

It would have been nicer to hear from Bruce Clay, Danny Sullivan, or Brett.
Bruce clay will be topping up his tan and raking in the money as usual i suppose not appearing on webmasterworld

There's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time.
(I suppose I should come around here more often).
BTW, take it or leave it from someone who'se been doing this for a while. While many see "Galen", I see nothing but a version of what many of you where previously calling "everflux". No more, no less. Stop trying to over-analyze, and go back to the basics. The basics is where it's at. Always has, always will be. {/preachy rant}

Amen! This has been mentioned before in a few threads only to be met with "Did that, didn't work" type answers. Some just cannot be told and insist on getting Shakespear fro Jack and jill.

I suppose you might need the fourth if you were an "authority" on the first three.
