Is Home Page best?

Does Google prefer me to promote my Home page?

My Home page (www.mydomain.com) is a portal, which links to three websites one of which is mydomain.com/home/index.asp. The other sites are www.otherdomains.com

Obviously I will need to optimise mydomain.com/home/index.asp for mykeyword The question is.... would it be better to optimise the real Home page for mykeyword or doesnt it make any difference?

Thanks!

I suppose it depends on how you want your pages to compete with each other, which they are, as I see it.

What do you mean by "compete"?

All web pages, irrespective of who's site they're on, be it yours or anyone else's, are all in the same pot, all competing with one another for rankings. At least you have control over the design of your own pages.

Hmm,

Thats a good question. I usually optimise my pages individually. Not only do I use keywords though, on some of the deeper pages I use keyphrases, so in a way I guess your main keyword(s) could be better optimised on your home page, but don't quote me on that.

See, your home page in my eyes is where the visitor has to start. It is the page that gives the rest of your site an overview to the visitor, and the most important. So in answer to your question, IMO... yes.

On the other hand, if you have a product or service where it may be hard to find respectable keyphrases (in a niche market) then I would say optimise all of your pages under the same keywords with an additional extra keyphrase as such. If you are in a niche market then I say you would get better returns using this method.

Yet there are so many ways you could tackle the optimisation side of things. Just keep tinkering and testing and soon things will turn out alright =)

Good luck
Terry

I seem to have misread your post, I tend to read in blocks of 10 words (a skill I have not yet mastered).

Still, my last post may make a good read for somebody.
