widgets.com - wodgets.com - wudgets.com on same IP-adress

is this excessive linking?

On of our client got several domains (10) with about 10 different content pages. About widgets, widgets rental, wodgets and wudgets. All sites are physical located on 1 webserver with the same IP adres. Would it harm to link from all pages from domain 1 to the homepages of the other 9 related domains? From end-user/visitor perspective it make sense to show them related domains (and we offer the links on all pages for we don't know where they land in a site from a SERP) and thus relevant content, but I wonder if Google have the same idea about it ;)

Isn't there anybody that will share experience on this type of crosslinking between sites on the same server?

I just noticed this morning that if I do a search for link:www.widgets.com then link:www.wodgets.com and even link:www.wudgets.com I get the same resuults, as if Google has collapsed the domains together under the one IP.

All our domains point to the same index page however, so I am not concerned if only 1 domain shows up in Google, as long as 1 of them does! We don't use them to try and pad Google, just for different vertical markets for the same product.

Hi.

I am not sure what your question is exactly. Are you asking if you think G might penalize you for having multiple non-related domains on the IP address.

No, probably not.

But if you are asking if G might penalize you for having "competing" domains sitting on the same IP.

Maybe.

All I can tell you is that at one of the web hosting co's I use, an additional IP address in their hosting package costs $6 per year.

So, is it worth $6 per year to have seperate IP addresses for your domains.

It is for me.

If the content on each domain is unique and each domain has a good mix of other (outside) incoming links you should be OK.
