Google tracking outbound links

Have they always done this?

I get the sinking suspicion that I'm being a bit dozey, but has google always tracked their outbound links?

Normal links in the search results are now of the form

/url?sa=U&start=1&q=http://www.widgets.com/&e=7421

.. where I'm sure they used to be just plain links.

Happily the server still see's the same referer ( the search page ) so you don't loose out on seeing what people were searching for.

Notice the start=n which indicates the position of the result on the page ( would be interesting/useful to know for writing reports for clients! )

Have I been asleep, or is this a recent change?

TTFN, :)
