How much more value does a higher PR link give.

Hello All:

I have searched around, but never found an exact answer to these questions:

1. How much more value does an inbound link from a higher PR site have? For example, is a link from a PR7 site 100 have 100 times more value than a link from a PR6? 10 times?

2. As I have read, the anchor text of the sites linking to you is all-important. If they are using an image and not text, does google look at the alt="" text?

Thanks!
Mike

#1 only Google knows. All here are making guesses. I'd say closer to 10 than 100. As for #2, AFAIK yes.

Everything has changed so there is no way to know. I had a site go from a PR2 to a PR7 and it just made sure I got number one on most of my real minor terms. It don't mean what it used to.

Actualy PR does seem to have value again in terms that are not general. I am now number one for a ton of words that I was not before because I now have a PR7. keyword1 keywor2 does not rank at all but if you do keyword1 keywor2 plus just about any other term on my page I am number one and that has to be PR.

As far as what value a link has. There is more to it than just a link from a PR6 or PR7. Which page has less links. Which page is closer to your topic. A pr6 is worth more than a pr 7 if it has less links to other pages or if it is the same topic as yours. Also if they put your link in the middle of a body of text then it is worth more as well. PR is not a simple subject.

For a nice ranking on the SERPs a link from a page on topic could help more, but for PageRank I don't think it will have any influence. Same for the location of the link (unless the link is at the end of a very large file).

I guess I got off topic you are right for pure PR it does not matter where it is. But I would rather have an on topic anchor text on a PR6 page than just a www.domain.com listing on a PR7. You get more for your value.

Interesting....
So let's say they are both on topic, and both have the desired search term in the anchor. Then the best guess is that the PR7 link is worth about 10 times more than the PR6 for that search term? I realize that this is all guessing, but having a general idea about where to focus energy for getting links would be good :)

All things equal take the pr7 but as far as 10 times your guess is as good as mine. Nobody knows. I really don't think that it has 10 times more value that seems a little high.

Google has made Pagerank a commoditie. You can now buy links from PR7 and higher sites from a variety of places. What can google do in the long run to combat this other than dilute the value?
