Google using link popularity?
Anybody have a "feel" for this in the new google update?
It almost looks like this is being used in the new algorithym.

Thanks.

Not on my sites...

I think the slight improvement in the ranking of all my sites is directly due to
a) the extra links I've got
b) the extra pages I've written
c) the extra care I've taken to lay the sites out well.

I don't see, on my sites at least, anything more sophisticated than a more up to date index and some better spam filters.

I have seen some sites which are still in SERPs just because of links, so i think it still counts.

I don't understand the original question. A large part of Google has always been link popularity. At the moment, and it has been this way for a while, inbound anchor text seems like a very large part of the algo.

It must be the florida shockwave.. or someting'....
but Im seeing an up and down that say if you were 14 you are now 20.
The decrease in position being a second tier of the same domain (different webpage) that
would and or has and is... very well linked.
Say for example.. you are number 15 a month ago.. now you are 20 because of the second tier listing... (I am sure there is technical name you guys have)...
Maybe this is the new "EverFlush" ;-)
but with the tier listings it looks like this..

Google
6. www.funkywidgetsaregood.com
---- 6a. www.funkywidgetsaregood.com/i-am-well-linked(or-maybe-pr-well).html

etc..
so if you were 7... you are now 8.

If this is the new algorithym... I am not saying it's particularily bad,
but I am looking at the quality of the second tier 6a as whether the item should be in the list... moving other more relevant sites down the list.

Well anyway... maybe Im just gonna take another walk around the lake again.
It's nice out today any way...

Merry Thanksgiving!

I think google is trying to filter commercial sites so that they are buried deep in the serps. Thus, forcing webmasters to turn to adwords.

Now Im looking at one of my many domains...
it's well ranked..
and now g=oogle is double tiering even that domain... which
is absolutely ridiculous. I'm on the top and now I'm pushing
people down the index, creating less diversity in the index.
I tell you folks... If I were Y=ahoo I'd be buying advertising
space like crazy taking advantage of this really reduction in
quality in g=00gle.
As a matter of fact... I'm putting Yahoo and Altivista logos to
hot link for searches off all my 4,000 pages.
