linking to a subdomain - good or bad?

hi I have a 2nd domain that is a redirect to a subfolder off of my main folder.

www.mydomain.com --> www.mydomain.com

www.2nddomain.com -redirect-> www.mydomain.com/subfolder

Would I get better PR credit if I just host my 2nd domain separately?

When asking these types of questions - I would step back and ask what you would do as a search engine.

Search Engines:

1) Don't like redirects

2) Would probably find it hard to find any reason to support redirecting domains to folders on another domain.

3) Would be somewhat likely to give you credit from a different site.

I would say host the second domain seperately. Also, when people refer to subdomains - they usually mean:

subdomain.example.com

Google does seem to treat these seperately. At least for some things.

However - using such a tactic to pump up your own PR isn't likely to bear much fruit.

one interesting subtopic here: how does Google treat deep linking between sub-domains of one site?
For example, if you offer a site in several languages, what is preferable:
- one site with different directories
- sub-domains
- completely different domains?
Always assuming that you would place links for topics/sub-topics in one language to the translations?
