PageRank not showing in list

I rank 5, I am in Google's directory and there I rank zilch--i.e. no green bar next to my site. Can anyone explain this? The site has been listed in the directory now for some 2 months. If I run a check on my page rank with one of those sites that allow you to access the pagerank CGI program (I'm on a Mac and not capable of showing any toolbar at all), I get PR 5.

Google has baffled me since August, when my positions all fell hard and deep. I've since tried to correct this, but with no luck. Incoming links with higher PR than my site aren't even listed... The bot visits once a day for a few seconds and a few pages, and off it goes again. In the past, it kept crawling my site.

And now this....

I've not always found those sites that accurate. I wouldn't rely on what they say. If you want to Sticky me the URL I'll take a look with the toolbar.

Hi i encounter a similiar problem.
Today I was surpise when i did a link:www.example.com.sg/ on google it show a 69 pages is linking back to me. Out of which most are from my children sites linking back to it. I must say that the result is random, sometime i manage to see the 69 links, sometimes not, sometimes not manage to view the next 20 links. Why is this so?

If you have google tool bar with you, you will see that sometime if will have a pr of 6 sometimes it will have a pr of 1 on the home page.

Is it because this 3 pages confuse google?

Example:

www.example.com.sg/
www.example.com.sg
www.example.com.sg/index.html

As all refering to same site.

Thank alot.

If you do a backward links using google toolbar you will able to see the 69 links, but not link:http://www.example.com.sg/ on google search.

Another problem is the random page rank.. Some time 6, some time 1.. Anyone have this problem before?

Any help is appeciate.

It depends on the datacenter the info is coming from. If you search on www-va.google.com you will see it consistently returns 69 links, for www-ex.google.com it is consistently 0 back links. Similar for PageRank. If you add the following line to the hosts file

216.239.37.100 toolbarqueries.google.com

you will see the PageRank from www-va.google.com which is in your case now a PR6.

P.S.
Please remove the URL's in the posts above.

What the cause may be for the troubles with Google, I don't think it's very healthy for webmasters like myself to be so dependent on Google's behaviour. Yet, I've tried other methods of generating traffic, (e.g. sending press releases, paying for inclusion on other SEs) and it works, but it has not generated so much (targeted) traffic as I had before from Google alone.

It's very frustrating not to know what you've done wrong--if I have done something wrong in the first place--because it gives the impression that the behaviour is completely arbitrary. And if that would be the case, then I think it best to give up on Google altogether, because how in the world can you tune a site towards such illogical behaviour?

It has been suggested to me that I subscribe to AdWords. However, my budget is minimal--the site is a web magazine run by yours truly alone and no commercial linking at all--and I found AdWords to be quite "dangerous" with regards to budget, so that is a no go...

Again, very frustrating, especially as I am listed in DMOZ and that by itself doesn't seem to impress the big G in the least....

Hello Erik,

It could be that the Google Directory's PageRank was not yet updated, but the toolbar's PageRank is. For what I see, (see also my previous post in the thread), the datacenter 'va' has other PR information than for example 'ex'. After the datacenters are synchronized, I expect the Google Directory to be updated as well. But for now the back link to your site (the one in your profile) in the Google Directory can already be found when searching on 'va'. So it's just a matter of time, and you will see a green bar at Google Directory next to your URL.
