Today, Google announced the grand prize winner of the Google Code Jam
2003 programming contest, an online programming competition that
challenges participants to solve difficult software programming problems.
Jimmy Mardell from Stockholm, Sweden competed against 25 finalists from
around the world in the Championship Round today for the $10,000 grand
prize. He said, "It's great to be amongst so many brilliant people with the
same background as me. This was fun, and I did not think I would win."The Google Code Jam began in October with more than 5,000 participants
solving a series of programming problems within a given timeframe. The top
25 finalists were flown to Google's headquarters to compete in the
Championship Round. There were 15 finalists from the U.S. and 10 from other
countries including Argentina, Germany, Ukraine, and others.The top four winners of the Google Code Jam are:
1st Place: Jimmy Mardell -- Resides in Stockholm, Sweden where he works for
Elucidon. Prior to Elucidon, Jimmy was working toward a Masters degree
in Computer Science from the Umeå University in Umeå, Sweden.2nd Place: Christopher Hendrie -- Resides in Waterloo, ON, Canada where he
works for Bioinformatics Solutions, Inc. Christopher is a graduate of the
University of Waterloo.
