I have a site called www.drwidget.com if I use "drwidget.com" as anchor text will it help for keyword "widget" or should I use "dr widget" with the keyword clearly seperated with spaces

Similarly if I use "widget advice from drwidget" would that be considered keyword spamming?

TIA

Welcome to WebmasterWorld

If you want Google to find "widget" on a page you will have to use that word separately. If you write "football" Google will read just that, not "foot" and "ball".

Your phrase is not keyword spamming. "Widget advice from dr widget" would not be spamming either. It's a perfectly natural phrase. (If your do not repeat it too often!) Judge your phrases from a linguistic view. As long as you keep your use of words reasonably close to a natural balance you should be OK.
