Will changing host affect my PR?

I currently have a non commercial website that's hosted by one of the many free webspace sites out there. It currently has a PR of 5. If i moved the website to some half decent paid-for host would i lose my PR?

Currently my URL of the site redirects to the free hosting address(eg myurl.co.uk >>> pages.freewebspace.co.uk/). I've noticed that in Google my site is listed using the redirected address and not just www.myurl.co.uk. So would my Google listings be lost?

Any help/advice much appreciated.

Yes, switching host can affect your pr.

Just be careful what host you go to. There are many hosts who will allow adult content. You do not want to be in a "bad neighborhood" and end up getting classified as a spammer or on some sort of adult filter.

Invesitgate the host you are moving too carefully. If they will tell you the ip address that you are going to have, then drop that into a search engine and see what comes up. Most ip's are recycled these days and you don't know what was on that ip before. Also, hand check or program check the other ip's in that c-block for adult sites, or excessively spammy sites. Lastly, if you have a c-block domain/whois checker or service, then check who owns the other sites in the c-block and what kinds of sites they run. If they are spam city, then you may want to look elsewhere for a host.

It is also possible that the redirect will cause problems. Make sure when you move that the domain etc is all set up properly, with no redirect.

UK hosts do not generally host adult content so you should be safe from that point of view - good idea to check other sites within the c-block anyway though as Brett says.
