Google and addon domain

What Google thinks of them?

Howdy!

I have a little dillema here.

Here is the story: I'm going to launch my second website with a new domain name. My hosting plan allows several addon domains, so I will use this and establish my second website as an addon domain, but with it's own domain.

So if my current site is on: www.domain1.com
My second site would be: www.domain2.domain1.com, which is automatically redirected to www.domain2.com. The user does not see the redirect, but Google does.

SO here is the question:

What would Google do if he sees the redirect from the addon domain to the new domain? Would my 2nd site be punished for this? Would the 1st site be affected in any way?

Any ideas would be great.

Welcome to the board, Berzerk. I'm not sure it's as much of a Google question as a technical issue how this will be done server-side. What will the "redirect" look like, will it be done in .htaccess, by the host at their end, and will it be a 301, a 302?

And what's the URL that will be appearing in the browser address bar when navigation the second site? Not sure it's quite clear about that.

addon domains: i don't think google holds any grudges against them .. and i don't think theres a way for it to find out if it's an addon unless you give a link to the sub-domain ofcourse .. just an additional entry is passed in httpd.conf for it .. DNS zones are set and saved server-side .. it's safe I think.

marcia: addon domain will automatically get the sub.domain.com/file.php as www.domain.com/file.php .. no setting is needed once the addon domain has been added to the settings on the server.

Thanks Marcia,

I just found out from my host's forum that it's not that much of a redirect (not your usual redirect in any case). So I guess there shouldn't be a problem with Google or other SEs.

The user will only see www.domain2.com in the browser address bar, he will have no way of knowing that this is actually a subdomain "www.domain2.domain1.com"

Thanks Seofreak, that's exactly what I've found out from my host's forum. Thanks again.
