Duplicate Site and Google

Hi,

I have a site, which is in the index since a couple of month, the site is properly optimised and has lots of links (over 2000) to it, but it doesnīt produce

since the beginning the site didnīt get properly crawled, never got a ranking in the top 50 and so on

we tried everything and things just got a bit better, but nothing, which could explain the odd behaviour of google

We are thinking to move the site now to a different domain, from widget.com to widget.net.

Has anyone ever tried this, if we put a 301 redirect from the .com to the .net, are the chances good, that we donīt pick up any duplicate content ban or any other problems?

Any ideas or insights welcome. Thanks

IMO you should try every thing else first. There are a lot of people with these types of problems and many threads in this forum to give you ideas as to what the problem may be. Try some site searches here for things like "google not indexing pages" etc. etc.
The first things i would check is to make sure your robots.txt validates, if you have one. And maybe your htt access.file
Then check your meta index tags, make sure there are no problems there.
Anyway, try your best to fix the problem before anything else.
hope that helps some,
best wishes

o.k. as mentioned in the post, the site is already couple of month old, is getting spidered every 2-3 days, but always just 3-5 pages, another site, with exactly same links and a very similar site, but different content, is getting spidered every day 50-100 pages.

There is for 100% no problem with the site or any settings on the server.

I read all the posts as well and I tried everything, but without any success.

Any ideas what i should do and will I get a problem with moving from .com to .net?

How will/could changing from a .com to a .net solve the problem?

What is the PR of the inex page?

because maybe there is some ban on that domain, which we just bought 4 month ago.

The pr is 3, but should be 6.

What makes you think it should be a 6?

A penalty is PR=0, not PR=3

A PR of 3 could be the problem. Google tends not to crawl too deep into sites with a lower PR. It takes a while for new sites to get all pages indexed (you said your site is only a couple of months old) - I think that these two issues may be the reason for your problem.

You could have a look at what the previous site was like, with that domain name, through archiver or similar. See if there was anything that might have been dodgy.

If it's only been a month or so, I'd give it a bit more time. Google can be very fresh for sites/pages it has known of for some time, but some people report that it can take a while to get a new site fully indexed these days.

hi, i am in seo for 2 years and believe me guys, I have tried everything and I know it should be pr6, as the other site with exactly same incoming links has pr6 and is only 1 month old.

So again to the first question, is it dangerous to put a 301 on a fully indexed site and move it to a new domain name at the same time.

Thanks

"exactly same incoming links"

May not be the problem, but a scary thought!

not really, especially as the site, which has problems, had them much before the other site went live, which has no problems at all

why would you want to move a domain from a .com to a .net? IIRC --".com's" rule. why not re-examine your main page layout and where/how you're linking to your other pages. and then give the SE's a chance to start crawling and see how things shape up.

Hi, I know my english is not very good, but I mentioned now, that I tried everything possible and this is the first site in 2 years of working on seo, which makes trouble.

So I donīt see any solution on that one, except moving to a new domain and start from beginning.

Is there one person, who can answer my initial question, is it dangerous to move a fully indexed domain putting a 301 to another domain.

Thanks

Oliphaunt, if you're convinced that the old domain is cursed, then do it. What have you got to lose? It might not be necessary, but what the hell, it should work.

If all of the content can only be found on the new site, then there shouldn't be any dupe problem should there?

If any others here see a problem with that plan, please give the guy a break and post some advice.
