Multiple Domains with Different Content

Is it OK to be listed for the same search phrases?

We are on google's 1st page for several keywords we target.

Our site has close to 1000 pages, but as most of us know google
would show a maximum of two URLs from the same domain.

Recently we've been thinking of buying couple of other domains
and creating pages with significantly different content from
our parent site, but optimized for the same keywords we target.
These pages will link to the parent site at a deeper level.

The whole idea is to list out products, services on google results for
more than just two occurrences.

Sounds like doorway pages - right?. But, we are going to work
hard to create all these pages with very rich in content.

Any thoughts?
