Site had been there for a year. No tricks, great content, design. Link exchanges, paid links.
PR used to be 8 now it dropped to 6, but no where to be found unless you type domain name, domain.com or the full title of my site.
Any help will be appreciated
1. google algo change.
2. new google penalty filters.
3. hosting problem.
4. changes to your page.
5. changes to pages that link to you.
6. changes to pages that you link to.

1. I know is not the change. I have several other sites that maintain their high rankings
2. This is what I assume, but my sites are not doing: hidden text or links, guestbook or weblog
spaming, link farms, duplicate content, etc.
3. We change the pages often to update content, but is the same for all sites
4. I control some of the pages that link to me as I pay advertising, the rest I checked and are mostly the same
6. I was not aware that the content of the pages I link to affects my rankings

I ran the validator and it gave a lot of errors. I ran it for my competitors and my other sites and the same

I had built thousands of links to all my sites from link exchanges primarily. I do not get links from
guestbooks, blogs, or link farms. I do see some competitors getting their links from weblogs
and Google rewards them with better rankings and my site with better content, design and
legitimate links is dropped. This is frustrating.
Luckily my primary site is still there and so are the others. But they dropped my no.2
Sometimes is makes you think if it is worth it to spend so much time, money and energy when the others
get better rewarded with a lot less effort.

Fix your errors then, and get one upon the competiton.
That is my understanding - if you link to sites which have been penalized.
There are currently quite a few threads where people are complaining about either not being indexed or dropping massively in the SERPS. I'm starting to worry about competitor sabotage.
Google used to say that this wasn't possible. Now they say there is "almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your ranking". Well that means that it can be done and the change in wording in my opinion is very significant.
I was referring to guestbook or blog spaming. Which is getting very common this days. I think there are legitimate guestbook or weblog links, but when somebody posts a lot of links with keywords on the anchor text to a guestbook, weblog, etc. I would consider that spam.

I still think the problem has to be somewhere else.
That explains my drop in PageRank (From 8 to 6) I will definitely audit my link exchange partners. Is going to be a lot of work as I have several thousand partners for all my sites.

This scares the hell out of me. I thought they could not affect your ranking, unless they tried harder to be on top of you.
I would love to find out how they got my site dropped.
The funny thing is most pages are indexed and cached, I still have good PR, but they dropped all my backlinks.

As far as I know, that isn't a penalty. Google (correctly) sees those as two different locations. Have the server change any incoming to domain.com to www.domain.com.
Write to those sites that link to you with the "wrong" link and get them to change it.
It is going to be a lot of work, but I guess it has to be done.
I was just point out by one of my link partner to another site that effectively mirrors mine. He copied main parts and all my link exchanges and is now persuing reciprocal links.
I am almost convinced that this is the reason for my penalty. What can I do?
Amazing how the factors of relying on one traffic source (G) and something as simple as copying your site can wreak havoc on an unsuspecting businessperson. I hope INktomi handles this better.
This is really frustraring. Now I am considering the legal options I have, but that won't help to get my ranking back.
