Google will normally see URIs in Web pages, inside or outside scripts.

For example, [example.com...]

Last time I checked (months ago), Google didn't see www.example.com as a link. At PubCon IV in Boston, Matt Cutts suggested that Google would find more links so this may have changed or it may change.
