We are in the process of creating thousands of new product pages for our site. What is the best strategy for linking to these within our site? Should each page be in a seperate directory and named default.htm or should each page be in a common directory with unique page names such as xyz.htm?

what are your / your clients objectives for the pages?

do you want humans to be able to find the pages easily within the site?

do you want humans to be able to find the pages via a search engine (I assume google as its in this forum)

how will you be arranging linking within the site to support the above two opjectives?

What are the various logical ways you could segment the thousands of products into like groups and subgroups?

what are searchers likely to search for for each of these items individually and where do you plan to integrate that key information into a) the human navigation within the site and b) the parts of the site and pages which search engines are likely to give prominence to and return in response to searches.

oh .. what will your plan be to update the pages en masse when product updates arrive or when template changes are needed?

The product pages will be generated automatically on demand based on part combinations that are available to build various products in our database.

Our main objective is for customers to find these pages through searches such as google and froogle.

These products can be grouped together such as blue products, tall products, style A products, etc.

We havent determined what the best linking strategy is for this yet...

Thanks for any help or advice you may have...
