I dont know whats happened, but sometime around the 21st of Oct. the titles and descriptions for 4000+ (all) of my pages just disappeared along with of course my positions! The PR for the time being is holding strong but what the hell could be going on here. Spiders havent been by for more than 2 weeks now.

Help please
suggestions?

You're not alone, it's happened to me and others as well - so chill for a bit! ;)

Are you seeing just the URL where the title usually is? Was the site moved, did IP change, or was there any amount of down-time?

I totally agree with Marcia. Same thing happened to me with 158 page website and another member here. That member wrote google and got a good reply which put me at ease. Look for your pages to come back in November. Nothing you can do but wait it out.

With the PR update, my front page went from 4 to 5, but the interior pages remained the same. That also put me at ease. Although "frustrating," - just wait it out.

I had similar problems with my backlinks but it has sloved just cuople of days before. I didn't do anything - just waited to get things sorted out...

Hope that helps.

I had similar problems with some of my pages losing their sane descriptions. In my case it looked as if Google was taking the ALT tags from my top of page navigation graphics and using them as the page text! So my page description were along the lines of "logo spacer main index contact about..."!

I did nothing and my affected pages seem to have recovered - at least the ones I'm aware of.

I'm wondering if this may be some sort of duplicate content filtering, anyone see this type of reaction from google for duplicate content. We recently made our site available in 8 languages unfiortunately in several of the languages the english pages are duplicate as the translation work has yet to be done and updated. Could this be? and if so how can it be avoided?

Thanks for all the great responses

I seriously doubt that's it. I know quite a few competitor sites thate are duplicated and Google never seems to find them. Rack it up to a Google Glitch.

I've had a similar problem with a major ecommerce site but in my case the title IS NOT MINE (not a snippet either and not grabbed from any other part of my site). Google is confusing my title with either an affiliate or something else but my title tags have changed for the home page as well as a majority of the internal pages. Wierd thing is - no changes have been made on my end yet the title tags keep changing, 3 times in the last 27 days. My serps have dropped somewhat, PR7 remains intact. I've checked with Google engineers, and some real SEO experts and everyone including myself is baffled. If anyone else has had the same problem, please sticky me and I'll share the URL and see if someone here can make a decent assesment, because everyone else has come up short.

I see the same thing for a couple of sites out of 400. I think it has to do with the duplicate content filter. In my case I understand why Google is seeing "dupes", although they are not.

My suggestion is do some searches very specific to your sites....things that could not possibly exist elsewhere, and then see if they actually do!

I think Google has increased the bias for detecting dupes, and in some cases is "seeing" a dupe when it isn't.

super_seo

the content would have been dupped only on the site itsely example
P1 www.samesite.com/english_language/bluewidget.htm

P2 www.samesite.com/chinese_language/bluewidget.htm

P3 www.samesite.com/french_language/bluewidget.htm

The content is the same as english as the new translations for this particular product are not complete.

Questions

1. How can i avoid this in the future (meta tags, robots.txt , etc)

2. And now that it been done and it may be a dup content issue will removing all duplicated content fix the problem?

3. I have already removed all duplicated content, should i resubmit the main index pages now?

4. Is everything going to clear up now that the dup content pages are gone?

5. Has any one had any experience in getting reindexed after being filtered for dup content?

thanks for all the great replies

I have the same case, I mentioned in my other posts too
1) Site in google DB, without cache....
2) it do not show up on SERP, though it was on top for major KWS till 13 th oct.
3) No Google Bot after 10th Oct
4) Site has PR 5 and enough Quality related links to justify it.

The only thing is I changed my IP on 12th Sept, and kept the Site live on old IP till 22 Sept.

People...please help! I want my site to be cached!

Super_Seo,
I contacted Google and fortunately got a personal response saying that its a "Partial Index" problem with Google.

I believe my site was penalised for duplicate content. I had a certain PPC portal page on the front page whilst I developed the domain, and Google found it.

Once the site was developed I removed the PPC portal front page, but the description of the front page in Googles index has not updated (and has no cache). Googlebot has visited the front page 7 or 8 times the past week. I emailed Google, they replied "We can assure you that it is not currently penalized". I wonder if that means that it once was?

The site has no cache in Google at the moment, and no title and descriptions for the front and only page that is in the index. However googlebot has been pounding my site for the past week, unlike others who have posted here, but my site no longer has dupulicate content, since I removed the PPC portal from the front page.

These are the inadequate responses I have received. From Google regarding this issue.

Google Guy, anyone, what can be done? Any advice would be appreciated.

EMAILS

Dear Google,

I own and operate a website www.mysites.com. It is one of the largest and most popular sites in its industry. We employ over 200 people and service thousands of people every day. We pride ourselves in having original content, fantastic service and being an amazing information resource, with thousands of pages of guides, tips, and forums covering the entire industry from top to bottom.

Recently your search engine seems to have removed all of our content from your search engine this has had devastating effects on our business. Our listings in your index while still there, show no Description or Title, only the URL is displayed. We need to know the reasons behind dropping these many thousands of pages from your index. We are big Google fans here and indeed have relied possibly too much on your search engine for our marketing. In our business we are competing with billion dollar companies in a huge industry, your fantastic marketing medium has allowed us to remain competitive in this industry and we thank you for that, but we need to know how this situation has come about. Our employees are in serious uncertainty with this situation. Our website is in 6 different languages and our company has offices in 4 different continents, we need to know if we have done something wrong. We have removed almost all of our multilingual capabilities in fear that we have been hit by some kind of new duplicate content filter. Are we being penalized, or has there been some sort of tragic mistake? Please let us know what we need to do to get back in Google we are at your mercy.

RESPONSE:

Hi John,

Thank you for your note. Please be assured that your site,
www.mysite.com, is currently in the Google index. Following is a link
to our search results:

[google.com...]

The Google index contains two types of pages: fully indexed and partially
indexed pages. Your page is currently partially indexed. This means that
although your page is included in the Google index, our robots have not
completely reviewed the content of your site in past crawls. Partial
indexing does not adversely affect your PageRank or your inclusion in the
Google index. However, it does mean that our crawlers do not have enough
information about your site to provide a detailed title for your site. As
a result, your page is listed by its URL in the Google index.

We understand the frustration this situation may cause you. We are working
to change the way that partially indexed pages appear in our search
results, and we hope that you will find the descriptions and titles of
these pages more satisfactory in the future. Additionally, we will
continue working to increase the number of fully indexed pages in our
index. We hope this information helps clarify your concerns, and thanks
again for taking time to contact us.

Regards,
The Google Team

MY REPLY:

Dear Google,

Thanks for your fast reply. But I cannot agree with your answer. All of the pages you have mentioned being partially indexed in Google have been in Google, fully indexed for the past 3 years. How could they only now be partially indexed? Secondly your SPIDERS have not come to visit my site www.mysite.com in WEEKS so how could the pages EVER become fully indexed if your spiders are not even crawling it. In the past we would receive 600 to a thousand hits a day from your spiders now they have all but disappeared. PLEASE give me a better answer than this and try to restore some faith to the hundreds of employees that are truly suffering at the hands of this event. All I want to know is what I can do if anything and when the spiders will be back to fully index the site.

Once again thank you for your response, but I can’t tell you how serious a situation this is for us and I’m at the end of my rope here. I don’t know what action I will have to take next.

Best Regards,

RESPONSE:

Hi John,

Thank you for your reply. Google's robots crawl the web on a regular cycle (every 4-6 weeks), indexing more than three billion web pages. Because of the vast amount of data refreshed with each crawl, the update process is completely automated; as a result, we're unable to make manual changes for individual sites. New sites, changes to existing sites, and dead links will all be noted in the course of the next crawl, which will be completed soon.

For further assistance, answers to some of Google's most frequently asked questions can be found at [google.com...] Other helpful information can be found at [groups.google.com...] in the [groups.google.com...]
group.

Looks like they typed in the wrong url.

site:www.mysite.com -sdfasldfh

Results 1 - 100 of about 1,010. Search took 0.41 seconds

site:www.mysites.com -sdfasldfh
Results 1 - 1 of 1. Search took 0.08 seconds

I assume they outsource their customer service...

But dude, what's with the triple redirection?

Sorry if I'm missing something

now its getting worst the actuall pages are now dropping completely, we are now dropping at abouint 20% of our pages a week. All the data centers are showing different Numbers of pages in the index for my site and those numbers are dropping rapidly. I need help before every last one of my pages gets smoked

Also allinurl:www.mysite.com shows 3 pages results with Titles and Descriptions, the 3 pages are a product page and our home page and a link from fastsearch.com I have no idea why it shows that. When i click on the "repeat the search with the omitted results included." all my pages are then shown less there desc and title.

PLEASE SOME ONE HELP.

It looks like the thread you mentioned may be the problems im am experiencing. We are not hosted on GoDaddy, we have our own dedicated server and other sites on the server are not affected, however we have just recently had a complete change in site structure and needed to include 100s of redirects tom the new pages this may have somehow caused my situation as it was about this time that the redirects were applied. But I can't imagine what we did wrong I believe we followed all of googles suggested redirect methods. Googlebots just refuse to come back :(

Google Guy just checking whether you received my report regarding the issue with my site disappearring in this manner as well, seems no action has been taken. Is my case a common one here, I mean the site has been out of the index since the start of this issue, it was never hosted on GoDaddy and it's no where near the subnet you mentioned.
Read your "Update" thread didnt seem to cover my stuation.
This seems like a very serious case that truly needs attention, please let me know whats happening and I would appreciate any advise on action i can take.

In Google with 5,000 + pages receiving 3000-4000 targeted purchasers a day to nothing over night from Google. :(

Now im down to 280 pages and continuing to drop PLEASE HELP.
