I was wondering if Google (or anyone else) offers a service whereby you can find out the most popular search terms etc when given a wildcard match.

For example I type in widget* (or widget% or %idget% or whatever) and it ranks the most frequently typed in term (eg. no.1 is "i want free blue widgets").

I can find this out (in a limited way) from my site logs for existing markets but this would obviously be very valuable when moving into a new market (and also to confirm that I have good keywords in my existing sites) - perhaps too valuable to give away ;)

Pretty heavy duty processing too I guess.

You might want to check out the overture keyword inventory (http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/) and also the google adwords keyword suggestions, but you might need to register for adwords to get access to that.

Hi TheDave,

Yes - I should've actually pointed out this link to the Google FAQ [webmasterworld.com] but I wondered if anyone had any other insider knowledge ;)
