Anchor Text in backlinks

does www.blue-widgets.com count?

If I get 100 external backlinks with the following anchor text.....

<a href="http://www.blue-widgets.com">www.blue-widgets.com</a>

Will my site score well for the search phrase "blue widgets"?

I was told that having www.blue-widgets.com as your domain is useless for getting good serps but in the above scenario, surely google can "see" those 2 keywords in the anchor text and consequently should give me good serps for that search phrase.

Or am I off the mark?

Yes, it should do. I have some links to one of my sites that are exactly like that, and I can search for the phrase and it's in the SERPS right where it should be.
