Old cache page mean new page isn't indexed?

Hi, is it safe to assume that if Google's cache is showing an old page (before changes) that means that the new uploads have not been indexed?

I wouldn't be 100% sure, Tom.

If you click from the 'Cached' link in the serps then there's probably an Id in the URL, and I think you'll get the cache from the same crawl as the results listing.

If you run a search and check the cache separately, they could easily be different versions.

a very strange thing has just happened, we had a simple page that was coming up quite well, we have just added to the page and it has vanished from google all together

any ideas on what might have happened?

The SERPs are very unstable at the moment.
