GWS : Google Web Server - based on?

We had a discussion here a few years ago about Googles Web Server. A version of Apache right? Would tha be available under the GPL?

Is so, where can I dl the Google source code at? :-)

Come again - are softwares created based on Apache supposed to be GPL as well or something?

If so...I'd like to download a copy of the source code, too.

my understanding of the gpl is that you have access to the sourcecode /only/ if the application is made available for you to acquire... if google doesn't allow others to run their widget then the widget's code is not available...

have i misunderstood something?

I'd be interested to know more about the Google Search Appliance, if anyone here has one - I highly doubt it would have the production GWS Server code embedded in it.

I'd be very surprised if the Google webserver was really based on Apache. Google have plenty of talented people, and whilst Apache is great as a general-purpose webserver it wouldn't be particularly hard to write something that performed better for their specific task.

Allthough i read somewhere (and posted the rumour a while back) that GWS is Google Web Server based on apache im not sure today ...

What about Groove's GWS? [groove.net...]

soap, webservices etc. sounds very googlish, imho ...

that url seems to be broke or something... cutting and pasting it directly into the url bar gets me a 404 from groove's site... i was able to find something called Groove Web Services which fits the acronym but the url is nothing like what you show...

Apache does not use the GPL. They use the Apache Software License which isn't nearly as restrictive as the GPL.
