Two pages that I had ranked on google for months have totally dropped from the index. How could this be?

Brett - don't you think it's strange that for my site I have 120 cached, indexed pages one day, then 118 cached, indexed pages the other?

Is it possible for a page to be penalized and not a site?

Hoping it will come back soon =)

Google does not care for low-PR sites too much and due to the latent activity (massive amount of pages are created everyday) you can guess that your pages' PR drops if you don't get more links. Perhaps these were your lowest PR pages (not talking about Toolbar PR but real PR).

Or maybe your server could not deliver these two pages last crawl, or network problems in between.

I've had some pages vanish too.

I've figured out why for a couple of them, but for the others I don't have a clue.

Google giveth, and Google taketh away ...

For these pages, the site is PR5, and the page is a PR3. True, google giveth and taketh away.

For the past several months I have observed that about 5% of my pages are missing from Google at any given time. Which pages changes continuously, and since there is nothing I can do about I have stopped caring.

Since I have a clean site the thought of penalization never even occurred to me, it is just random fluctuation.

We had 6500 one day and 1500 the next, that's strange, not 2

I have pages that come and go from the country index (Australia) but remain constant in the global index.

One day all my pages will be listed in "pages from Australia", the next day - 95% are missing.

The site is fairly new and PR is not distributed fully yet. I'm expecting it to settle down then.

Still - strange that all the pages stick in the global index. Has anyone else experienced this?
