Google And <FORM>'s Drop Down Menus

Does Google fine links in Form Values?

Howdy All,

I have a quick question. We have a web site with a "Quick Links" drop-menu. Essentially, its a drop-down menu (using <SELECT>) with full URLs placed inside each <OPTION> Value.

Would goog find these URLs and/or crawl them?

Thanks!

Not sure about this, but it could help if you use a full URL like:

http: //www.domain.com/blue-widget.html
http: //www.domain.com/green-widget.html

instead of:

blue-widget.html
green-widget.html

(p.s. Don't put the extra space after "http:")

I'm pretty sure it recognizes the text, I've seen that happen...so it stands to follow that it recognizes the links.

Thanks. I just needed a sanity check. Sometimes with all this SEO information, everything just turns into a blurry haze.

Anyone know about other search engines? Same as Google, I assume?

This has not been my experience.

I agree that it will recognise it as a url especially if preceded by http://

However unless Googlebot realises that the form is used for navigation (and from my experience it doesn't), it will index it as text (not a link).

This is not to say the urls wont be spidered, however.

hi there...

well, i found a site that had a quick-links drop down to deeper pages of the site - seem that google picked it up. still posible that it could of deep crawled the site - the stuff that google picked up are three pages deep.

Basically, it takes three clicks to get there.
