Just looking at the serps for the day, I noticed that the alt text being used for the logo at the very top of my site is being shown in the serps.

Alt text shown in the SERPs... Is this something new?

The logo is named such as "blue-widgets.gif" with the alt being "Blue Widgets by MyCompany".

I am currently ranked 8th for "Blue Widgets".

This is nothing new, google has always done this, as far as I know. It always gets me when someone says google does not read in alt tags.

It will only read the ALT text if the image forms part of a link (even if it's just to a larger image).

It will only read the ALT text if the image forms part of a link

BTW verify that your img tag is closed properly

Make sense, the image is in fact linked.

Sorry to bring up a topic that has probably already been discussed. It was something new to me :)
