For certain search phrases my site is listed with a fresh tag whilst for others without.

This is 100% reproduceable for any given search phrase and happens on all data centers.

Can anybody explain this?

I noticed this with my journal a couple of days ago too. The snippets were different as well, like the result sets were being drawn from two different databases. Seems odd that fresh results would turn up on one search term and not another...

Hi:
I have the the same thing happening. I think what it is, that google has your index page as www.domain.com/index.html and www.domain.com/. My internal links were to index.html but all my other incoming links are to www.domain.com/. It's duplicate pages.

Sorry about the duplicat post!
Try this also. Type into the address bar both .com/ and index.html. My .com has no PR but the index.html has PR5? I changed all of my internal links to .com and hopefully it will straighten it's self out.

otnot: In my case it was exactly the same URL in the results - no index.html in both cases. I wish I'd taken a snapshot of it now. :)

otnot,

It's not a different url in my case either.

abates,

Are you suggesting it is intermittant for you? It is 100% reproduceable for me on any data centre. You will expect different snippets for different search phrases - that's normal.

Looks to me like either different versions of code or databases are used depending on the search phrase.

I only noticed it once... haven't gone back to check if it's still doing it...

I forgot to mention that this is only affecting my listing amongst the result set. That is, fresh tags are displayed for other listings in the serps for the search terms that don't produce the fresh tag for my listing.

I think it has to do with your external links. If google comesby daily through external links your serps will be updated in 2 or 3 days max. If your external links are less and google comesby thru them less frequently .. that affects your serps.

What is your site PR mywifesays?

Higher PR get their serps updated quicker

seofreak, Google comes every day but I think you've misunderstood what my point was.

For some search phrases the freshtag is displayed, for others it isn't.
