Backward links not showing up

Hi all, I can't seem to figure out why google is only picking up a few of the pages that link to mine, I have about 30 pages linking to my main url but only three show in the backwards links, will it help if I put links on my home page to the pages that link to me or is it just a matter of time?

I checked google's cache of the pages that are linking to mine and the link to my page is in the google cache but doesn't show up in my backward links.

Would anyone please enlighten me about how google adds backward links?

Thanks in advance.

Links from lower PR pages might not show. Linking from the homepage to them will give them a PR but reduce the amount given from your homepage to the interior pages on your own site.

Marcia, you are probably going to kill this post, but I'll give it a go anyway.

Look for a link right at the bottom of the WW home page. The toolbar now seems to claim that site has PR2, and Google reports no backlinks, even though it plainly has at least one PR7 backlink from the home page and thousands of PR5 links from other pages.

Meanwhile, ATW seems to find over 42,000 backlinks for it.

Anyone care to explain how a site with over 40,000 good PR backlinks gets a PR2 and none reported by Google?

I believe the last time I looked at this particular situation was about 4 months ago...at that time it all made sense.....today it looks bogus.

johna ... Welcome!

Google had me down for 27 backlinks, one was a PR7 and many were PR 4 and 5. About 2 weeks ago google started reporting no backlinks although like your site, they are cached so google knows they exist.

Are you links all reciprocal? People are reporting that reciprocal links aren’t being counted anymore. Mine were mostly reciprocal and I’m ashamed to say, some guest books.

All the links that I have are somewhat reciprocal, only a few are directly to the pages that contain a link to my page and the others are a link to a home page, that does not contain a link to my site on the home page but somewhere else on the site.

The funny thing is in with the three that show up as backward links there is no pattern that I can find, one is to a page that links to me but I link to their home page and another is a direct reciprocal link. I was reading in some other posts that google is slow to update backward links but they do count toward your ranking even if you cannot see them.

Also I see with other sites that are ranking above me that their internal link show up in the backward links, due to what I think is that they use full links ie. [widgets.com...] instead of just /sitemap.html, I'm wondering if this helps ranking.

Also I just noticed I got picked up in DMOZ, and am wondering how long this takes to effect my site.

Thanks for reading, I've been having lots of fun with search engine positioning and am happy to have found this forum!
