Difference between "Links to" and "Contains the term"

How does Google determine which is which?

Hi

Quick query - I have lots of what I would call 'links' from other directories to my website, however some links google determines as "links" and some as "contains the term"

Anyone know how google determines how to index a 'link' and if a 'link' is worth more that a 'contains the term' in terms of PR?

Thanks
miam

That depends on what you mean by links. PageRank is only calculated using actual web links i.e. of the form text here. If your site is only mentioned in the text then that will have no affect on that page's PageRank.

Several senior members have stated that:

-- Rough Quote "...if the page that is linked has a low PR4 or less, no link will show up in the SERP (it will still count as incoming PR). These low PR4 or less links will go to the 'contain the term' SERP." End rough quote --

Hope this helps.
