on the importance of Heading Tags ...

don't got no title? OK, we'll use your headings instead.

I uploaded a new personal site a while ago without completely 100% checking it as I was up against a deadline.

It seems that on one page I had forgotten to include the title and description/keyword tags (silly me), but I had included a H1 heading tag and text.

The page is now indexed by Google with the H1 text as the listing title, which would seem to further suggest the importance of including headings in the content for indexing purposes.

Nice observation, Woz! Thanks for sharing.

Did you forget to include the tags completely or just forget to fill them? (<title></title>)

Headings are the no 1 optimisation technique if they are used right with the correct keywords your site will rise above the rest.
Well done

Is it makes difference if you put your H1 tag in <Body> instead of <Head>?

Yes, h1 in head is invalid and won't work, while h1 in body is correct, validates and will give the desired effect.

No Title, No Tags, Nix, Nada, Nuttin'! <hangs head in shame>

But did include a good heading and still acheived good listings (#3 for a specific 4 word phrase). Am now testing with appropriate Title and Tags. ;)

Interesting find, even though I had to stumble to find it.

Hey Woz, where was the <h1> in relation to the opening <body> tag?

Have anybody consider the effect of Hx tag as a hyperlink as well? ;)

bekyed is spot on, h1 and h2 tags used in a logical structure can be very powerful if everything else is done right too.

40 lines down, most of which were format/layout code. However, I am assuming that the parser would look for the first Hx line if no title was present.
