hit % shifting big time in the google/yahoo/aol sites

Less from AOL and Yahoo more from G. Why would this be?

For well over a year our visitors used to come from roughly 40% google, 35% AOL, and 20% Yahoo less than 5% from the others.

In the last 2 months the mix is more like 65% google, 15% aol and Yahoo.

This is confusing since for the most part the SERPS are the same on all three search engines.

I can only speculate as to why. Two thoughts: AOL continues to lose users by the millions so less searches from their users. Google continues to grow its monolopy.

I don't know about Yahoo. That part doesn't make sense. I also can't figure why it seemed to happen so suddenly 2 months ago.

Any thoughts?

Google has been growing the fastest of any of the SE's, and Yahoo in the last few months has been "tinkering" with their results, format, display, all sorts of stuff.

Which, even though they might have made it "better" might not have made it "good enough" to convince people to drop the real Google.

For some of my sites, the traffic is almost as much Yahoo as Google, but for others, I get 3 times as much Google as I do Yahoo.

Anything else, even AOL, is way, way down the list, depending on demographic, industry, keyword list, etc.

No changes here: last month, like every month, was Google 60%, Yahoo 20% and MNS 10% of SE traffic. Up or down one or two points from month to month, but monotonous consistant.

Thanks for the reply. It seems that my case is an isolated one. Mohamed_E says his hits are about the same and no other responses so I suppose it is not a big issue.

It is just odd to me that the mix of referrers to my sites changed so drastically and so quickly. For over a year the mix was just as Mohamed_E said, "monotonously consistant."

Another great internet mystery goes unsolved......
