Assumed most external links goes to domain.com/

domain.com/ has PR4
domain.com/index.htm has PR6

All internal links to homepage are absolute, pointing to domain.com/index.htm.

Is that a proof enough or do we need to incalculate more factors?

I agree.

I barely have any external links and rank pretty decently.

Must be the internal links (or the content ; )

You obviously have some high ranking internal pages on that site. I'll buy it (the argument, not the site ; ).

Your linking strategy is splitting your PR between two versions of the same page though. IMHO, it would be much better to concentrate all links (internal+external) on either "/index.htm" or "example.com/" - consistency is definitely a good thing.
