Was wondering if anyone could help illuminate this for me...
I have recently re-launched a site with a partner of mine. The domain name we are using had been indexed on Google previously (about a year ago) as a site using frames (which I no longer use on any sites after seeing the indexing problems they can create). Nonetheless, the site had been doing decently for certain targetted keywords when first launched...unfortunately, due to a combination of inability to service inquiries and a dispute with our thorougly pathetic webhost, the site got neglected. For a few months, the domain was showing an "unavailable due to cancelled account" message or something to that effect.
A few months ago, we started up again. New host, new site - similar (but not entirely duped) content. Google visited us a few times (this was around June), indexed us - though ONLY for a search of ourdomain.com - we were coming up under absolutely NOTHING else, even key phrases found in our title/content etc...such as our company name, which was not shared by anyone else online.
As of a couple weeks ago, we've totally vanished. No 'cached snapshot of page' as there had been previously, PR0, not even coming up under search for ourdomain.com. This seems to me like a penalty...though I'm quite sure there's nothing spammy about our site...we're doing extremely well on altavista and alltheweb, and were listed in DMOZ recently.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? Does anyone have any input? I've been agonizing over this for the last couple weeks and can't come up with anything to explain it...
Any help at all would be immensely appreciated.
kindest regards,
kelly
There is the banning possibility or perhaps some association issue with other sites on your server I suppose but who knows about that really apart from google itself ..
I dont expect that nearly as many sites are banned as people expect ...
plus and perhaps the most significant is that I think the timescales for getting sites into google at the moment and for PR to update in response to inward links etc are not as reliable as they were .... I have had some clients calling me after their toolbars were not giving them the response they expected and yet ... if the referrals and ranking against target terms eventually come, then who cares what PR displays in the toolbar eh?
I have about 4 2003 sites that are not nearly as *in google* as the same age sites were by this time in 2002 .. and these are major updates of sites where something existed and was indexed at that domain in google already.
I would not get too paranoid yet ... read up on the change to google updates in the google forums in here and try to see what it is doing now .. different to how it did before ..
