Utilising site map to tempt fresh listings

Seems to be better than the homepage

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this effect.

We have a site with a PR5 homepage, and the site map is of course a PR4.

We have changing dynamic content (database article driven) on the homepage.

If I post a new article, which puts a new link to that article on the homepage, it seems to get ignored by googlebot. I have tested this now with one article which got ignored by google for 2 months. He visits daily.

As soon as I post up a URL into the site map, wham, bam thank-you freshman, low and behold it appears in google's index.

The power of having a site map?

Or does google not pay too much attention to "index.html" and concentrate on sub-pages, of which my site map is one?

I presume you sitemap is just a page with links on it?

If so I'm sure that's the reason because less content = more change to the bot to grab it.
