Google backlink issue

How come google's backlinks aren't updating?

Hi all, I got a question reguarding the links back to my site from google. Through this website here, I went to a site which has a link popularity checker utility. I have used the utility a couple of times, and with the results of the utility shows that alltheweb and altavista have over 100 links pointing to my site, while MSN has a little over 70. The real problem is that Google only has 2.

The links that are pointing to my site are about 1.5 - 2 months old at the most. I have noticed through my weblogs that google has visited my site, and I can view the most recent version of my site through Google's cache option. I realize it can take a long time for the Googlebot to crawl 3 billion sites on the internet, but I was wondering if anyone else out there has had a problem similiar to mine.

If anyone out there reads this and has any suggestions on what I can do, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have 70 MSN backlinks and only 24 google backlinks. I think google is way behing on listing the backlinks. Sounds like your pages are getting indexed though if you can see a cached copy.

Three possibilities

1) Google still playing catch up from the April burp.
2) Google use delayed backlink calculation to avoid one night stand links (so if regular Google algo says there is a link but fresh bot says there is not now, it don't get counted)
3) Both of the above

:-)

From April to here I saw only one update of backlinks listings for my site, and it is definitely cached.
Same about toolbar info.

Guys

What you can see aint what is being used. Why do you think mystery sites with no backlinks whatsoever make the top returns?! Google has the backlinks for them, has calculated them, has placed the site, but is not reporting the backlinks to users or the boogiebar - this is the least of their concerns - they are a search engine, not a reporting tool for "webmasters".

I have to agree with GG. I saw a site jump from nowhere to dominate the top slots for keywords I am working for.

Now, here is the kicker: the keywords never appear on the web page at all; in fact one page is just a terms and conditions page. However, google points outs that the keywords do appear in links when you view the cache. But if you look at the backlinks for the site it is >zero<. It is my whole hearted belief that the backlinks are there and being counted, however, they are not showing up as current otherwise this is the most optimized page in history with no keywords on it...

The backlinks count, even if they take some time to be displayed. I wouldn't worry about it yet. All you can do is continue requesting links and making sure they have the proper anchor text.

If you have more then one keyword in your anchor text does it give the other keywords less relevance? or is the more the better?

Ditto 2_much, they count if you see them or not. I think the back link function is more for general web users than SEO webmasters, and the back links that show at the moment are good enough for your average user so they are Google are happy.

My own sites have doubled backlinks at -cw (or www) but a client has been greybarred and another one shows backlinks from an expired domain as they were back in May.

I see this as a work in progress.
