Googlebot vs. AdWords

Googlebot comes less after I started to use adwords

I've noticed that after I started using AdWords Googlebot visits dramatically dropped and even when it comes around and grabs pages they do not show up in the index.

Has anyone else noticed this?

how can you tell when googlebot visits? - Sorry, this is my first day and I did read the FAQ's. I've been advertising in AdWords for a year and my site is not even listed in Google. I was wondering the same thing you are. Why would Google want to rank me and loose my $45,000 I'm giving them thru adwords?

I think the two bots are exchanging data, which makes sense. The adsense bot can use the cached files from the normal googlebot, and if adsense fetches a document, it can just as well let googlebot have a copy. Both ways google is saving bandwidth in both ends.

Hi TruckImage,

For your information, you can use a logs analysis software to know which bot are visiting your sites, and when (Urchin, Webtrends, Sawmill, and thousands of others.... ;) )

I haven’t seen this before. Could be pure coincidence I think.

TruckImage: Try something like AwStats

seindal: I was talking about AdWords, not AdSense. :)

Smiley: I really hope it is

Here are some numbers:

I had my website up for about 2 month. In the first few weeks, I haven't seen Googlebot at all. I was developing links and all that stuff. Finally it came around, grabed my index page about 5-6 times. Then it deep crawled. So far it came about 50 times. Then 3 weeks ago I started using adwords and since then Googlebot visited only 5 times.

Also my index page droped from top 30 to 300+ place for main keyword. My secondary keyword is #6 since the deep crawl.

Go figure %)

Today Googlebot came around and got 40 pages at once! But now, after a week of not using AdWords I've been dropped to 656th place for my main keyword.

moltar,

I don't think using AdWords would cause a drop in the number of visits from googlebot. I base that opinion on my experience with google in general.

Also, I did use AdWords for a while, then stopped. But didn't notice any difference in amount of spidering from googlebot - either when I started using AdWords or when I stopped.

I don't think adwords has anything to do with your drop.

Also - since it was brought up here - what is the best log analyzer tool for the price? Thoughts?

My keyword rank has been consistent, with and without adwords campaign.

It would be illegal for google to base the free listing ranking, based on Adwords useage. This would be the digital equivalent of payola.

Thanks guys. I guess I am a bad SEO :) I am going to try harder.

Actually as I read some posts today, I think keyword density is too high on the main page. And I really find it rediculous. Dropping websites because there is too many relevant keywords?

I really can't do much about minizing them. I have article and news titles on the main page that have main keywords in them. I list 5 recent articles and news titles on the main page. If I remove them it will lack content.
