I know people have talked about this before, but I have had some serious trouble today because googlebot and Media-googlebot are going to different servers. I moved my server over 1 week ago. Everyone on the Internet goes to the new ip address. Even googlebot seemed to find the right server. So, I closed down the old web site (left it with the default vhost) and thought everything was OK.

Well today I find google is going to my old server AND my new server. Every time somebody hits my web site, the adsense mediabot goes and grabs the page from the old server. This must be causing some serious issues with their system.. I know it messed up my old server. 404 errors on pages that have adsense code on them must bring up some sort of red-flag.

I hope they sort this out. Basically, I think, all machines on their network SHOULD have the same IP address in their cache. It does not make any sense.

According to Google, mediapartners bot and the regular googlebot are supposedly two completely different entities, and don't share information (although some have said they have seen things to the contrary). Even so, I doubt that IP addresses would be one of the things that they'd share.

You might want to drop the AdSense team a note about this and include your new IP address and asking them to update their records for AdSense.

I recently changed hosts, and AdSense found it right away. But I did do testing on the new server using the direct IP address before I changed the DNS server info, which may have made it easier for the mediapartners bot to know that the site was moving to a new IP address.

When you switch hosts, many people recommend you leave a month overlap on the old host to the new host, so you can keep an eye on any bot activity on the old one, but still serve the relevant information those bots need.
