What to do if someone has control of your company name?

A non-profit I volunteer for has been utterly eclipsed in google searches. Even if you search for the precise name of the organization, you'll get tons of links to sites related to a commercial company.

The huge commercial site's name is one word. The non-profit's is two words, the first of which is the same as that of the commercial company.

Huge company: X
Tiny non-profit: X Y

Any ideas? Is it normal that a search for "X Y" bypasses the home page for "X Y", even though it's a PR3 site according to the toolbar? Technically, we're at position 1 million something, at the bottom of the list.

I've tried purchasing adwords, but the "huge company" gets so many keyword hits that google disables me in less than an hour.

Changing the name of the non-profit is not likely, since we've been around for 13 years and SEO is definitely not the most important thing in the world. Company X doesn't respond to requests to post a link to us on their page (of course). On alltheweb, we show up first place.

Can anything be done?
