I have watched with amazement over the last few weeks as Googles results bring up web sites that don't deserve to be near the top. It has made me think as to how Google measures how well its algos. are working. In other words if it was possible to manually check every web site in a given category how would a human rank each site and is it possible to achieve the same result using technology? Is Google achieving its objectives? If I was looking for a company that made blue widgets I would expect to see results near the top that included the biggest/most respected/most well known blue widget maker as well as other blue widget makers that I could trust to provide that product. I personally don't think Google is providing these results! It is providing results where the SEO has done the "best" job to make the SE think that his site is the best and the end result is in my opinion not what the general searcher expects. I see very few sites featured in the high results now that I would call quality sites with excellent original content. All I see are gateway domains, keyword rich domain names and mostly poor quality web sites with virtually no quality content. Don't get me wrong there are good sites out there but they are becoming increasingly difficult to find amongst all the other poor quality offering that Google now produces.
So, how does Google measure its success and where have all the good/original and well thought out web sites gone?
