Linking to a site that uses questionable SEO.

Would a javascript link take away the risk to me?

A person I know has a political site with the same point of view as mine and he asked me for a link. He isn't PR0 yet but some of the things he is doing on the site run that risk and I don't want to take the chance of an HTML link to his site. However, I've read in this forum about people doing javascript links as a way to avoid passing PR. Would a javascript link to his site still put my site at risk or would it be safe? Also, since I'm not too familiar as to how to code this, could someone post a sample javascript link as well?

Thanks in advance.

Posting the code - no, this is the wrong forum for that. It's a good question though, because there are situations where there are good reasons to link to a site but there are things that could eventually cause a penalty.

Anything in particular you're seeing that you consider dodgy?

This person has "near invisible" text at the bottom of his main page. He has obviously survived to date but he would definitely fail a human check.
