Directories on SERP

I’m finding that over the last month or so, when I’m using Google in my day to day business, that the top spots on the SERP are full of directory listings. I can honestly say that it’s starting to devalue the results Google is giving me.

Any body else noticed this?

Depends on the keyword...in many ways, if Google points to a human compiled list of links to the same subject as you just searched on, that may well be the "best" page online for the keyword you searched for.

Though personally, I prefer to go straight to a website for information, instead of a directory listing of yet more links to chose from...after all, to get to the directory listing, you have already made one request / decision on which link to click.

Seems a shame to put users through the headache of clicking yet again to get to the info they desire.

On the other hand, there are usually adwords for commercial terms these days, so if the SERP is "unsatisfactory" to me, I'll just use the advertisements.
