Internal pages with no backlinks = #1 position

An important algorithmic development, or just a hiccough?

OK, I'll try to summarise as concisely as I can. It may be simply an extension of the current perceived problems with the update, but it might also be considered a completely new algorithmic development. Whichever it is, I believe some feedback would give a very handy insight into things!

I am checking SERPs for a very important, very highly searched phrase. Here are my results:

#1 internal page, no backlinks, no DMOZ
#2 internal page, no backlinks, no DMOZ
#4 internal page, no backlinks, no DMOZ, page not found
#5 internal page, no backlinks, no DMOZ, page not found
#7 internal page, no backlinks, no DMOZ
#9 internal page, no backlinks, no DMOZ

I think this is pretty astonishing, especially considering the importance of the search term. Is anyone else seeing comparable SERPs? Can anyone give any insight into why pages should rank so high without any backlinks? Does anyone else think DMOZ entries are causing a problem?

What's the PR for the index or other page these internals are linked from? Just because no backlinks are showing doesn't mean they're not there and being counted. Probably just a new site or new pages. Check their backlinks using other search engines.

Here's what I'm seeing:

Affiliate links: [widget.com?affID=222...]

with no backlinks, low PR, no text on the page with search phrases in it.

This is in a very popular search phrase. These affiliate links have no placement in any of the allinxx's, yet seem to rank highly for phrases they apparently have no business ranking for.
