What is Googlette ...

Google turning into an incubator?

I just saw this job opportunity at Google: Director of Product Management, Googlette [google.com].

Now what could that be all about? Is Google now moving towards VC or is this just some internal development?

Ah ha! As usual, someone beat me to the scoop here ;-). Just noticed the job listing now at 3am (yes, I'm a night-owl).

Googlette. Definitely a strange word choice. When I first saw this, I thought, wow, Google's rollerhockey team is now SO successful that they're hiring for a cheerleading auxilliary component!

I'm better at Italian than French, but I'd say its a small, feminine google.

"What is a Googlette? It's a new business inside of Google that is just getting started the start-up within the start-up. We're looking for an experienced, entrepreneurial manager capable of offering direction to a team of PMs working on a wide array of Googlettes. You will define Google's innovation engine and grow the leaders of our next generation of businesses."

^^ It could also be Google mixed with something else, as in a 'Vinaigrette.'

That is an interesting idea. Competition for Yahooligans, perhaps.

I'm just glad they didn't rename their acquired blog tool "Blooger."

"Globber" wouldn't have been too nice either, admittedly.
